About the Exhibition

Explore the fascinating world of spiders, some of the most formidable and often feared creatures in Australia. You’ll discover more about what spiders actually are, the intricate ways they produce silk and just how important their venom and silk continue to be.

Come face to face with 12 live spider species and 200 spider specimens including the infamous Sydney Funnel Web, Trapdoor, Huntsman, Redback, and Tarantula spiders. In this rare opportunity, you’ll see creatures of the crawling kind up close from the comfort of the exhibition floor.

Weave your way through interactive activities for all ages, including a dance off with a Peacock Spider, build a giant spider and create your own web. Plus, learn all about the leading research conducted by Queensland Museum Scientists.

Daily Programs

Want to learn more about spiders? Enjoy daily programs featuring live spider feeding and chats from one of our Spider Zookeepers at 10:30am, 11:30am and 2:30pm. This is a great opportunity to dig a little deeper and quench your curiosity for all things arachnid! Please enquire with our friendly staff on arrival to learn about each days feature program.

  • Spiders were one of the earliest animals to live on land, about 400 million years ago, making them much older than dinosaurs!
  • Queensland Museum has identified almost a third of all spiders in Australia!
  • In 2019, Queensland Museum has so far named 9 new spider species from specimens in our collection
